How does Forever Bare BBL work?
BBL hair removal is a method of reducing and eliminating unwanted hair. BBL is short for broad band light, and it removes hair through a process called photo-epilation. This is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, which describes the process of light energy being absorbed into the target hair follicles while protecting the surrounding skin tissue.
BBL uses a broad light spectrum, with wavelengths ranging from 590 to 1200nm. At Elite Medi Spa, we work with an 810nm diode laser, which is the industry gold standard. The wavelengths emit light energy in timed pulses to maximize efficiency and comfort. This is in contrast to many hair reduction devices that apply energy to an area all at once. Forever Bare BBL’s motion technology delivers a low fluence in multiple pulses. This protects the skin while raising the follicle temperature to a level that is optimal for hair reduction.
Before the treatment begins, we’ll apply a special gel to the treatment area. This focuses the light energy and cools the top layer of skin. The handheld device is then placed on the skin to get the procedure going! Light energy moves through the skin, targeting the pigmented melanin in the hair follicles. The heat and energy destroy the root of the hair and damage the follicle, causing it to become nonfunctional. This won’t damage any of the surrounding tissue or skin.
Laser hair reduction treatments aren’t typically painful. The laser’s intense heat feels similar to a warm pinprick, but this is alleviated by the cooling mechanism that’s built into the device. For those with sensitive skin, a topical anesthetic cream can be used. There are also a few things that can be done ahead of time to make these sessions as comfortable as possible.
- Take a pain reliever about thirty minutes before treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your scheduled treatment.
- Avoid treatment if antibiotics are prescribed. These are photosensitizing and make skin more sensitive to light. This can cause a burning sensation when exposed to the laser.
- Avoid sun exposure before treatment.
The time needed for each session will depend mainly on which part of the body we’re treating. A small area like the upper lip may take less than fifteen minutes, while a larger area like the legs or back could take up to an hour to complete.

How many laser hair reduction treatments are recommended?
Because each of your hair follicles produces hair at different rates, the growth phase for each will vary. Laser energy is only effective on hair that’s in the active growth phase. For this reason, multiple treatments are necessary to treat follicles in every growth phase. For the best results, we generally recommend 6-8 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. This will reduce or permanently reduce hair in the treated area, leaving skin soft to the touch. We create treatment regimens for each client, to optimize results and meet their specific goals.
There’s no downtime or recovery with Forever Bare BBL. While there may be some redness or mild swelling in the first few hours after laser hair reduction, this should resolve quickly. If there’s any residual discomfort, ice can be applied to the treated area for fast relief. There are specific guidelines to follow while going through laser hair reduction treatments. These are important to follow, and include:
- avoiding natural sunlight, tanning beds, and tanning sprays for six weeks after every session
- using a good sunscreen every day (even when it’s cloudy)
- avoiding the gym, sauna, and hot showers for 24 hours after each session
What results can be expected with laser hair reduction?
The results of laser hair reduction treatment will depend on the area being treated and the client responds to the process. Most experience long-lasting results with little to no additional hair growth. Even those who have regrowth report that it’s very mild, with hair that is finer and lighter than it was prior to treatment. Regrowth can be addressed with touch-up sessions if necessary.
